According to semi's year-end total semiconductor equipment forecast, the total sales volume of original equipment manufacturers is expected to reach US $103 billion in 2021, a sharp increase of 44.7% over the industry record of US $71 billion in 2020. By 2022, the global semiconductor equipment market will expand to 114 billion US dollars.

Ajit manocha, President and CEO of semi, said: "The total sales of semiconductor manufacturing equipment exceeded $100 billion, reflecting the consistent and extraordinary driving force of the global semiconductor industry to expand production capacity to meet strong demand. We expect that sustained investment in digital infrastructure construction and the long-term trend of multiple end markets will promote healthy growth in 2022."

It is reported that the OEM and logic departments account for more than half of the total sales of equipment in the wafer factory. Driven by the demand for cutting-edge and mature nodes, it will increase by 50% year-on-year in 2021, reaching US $49.3 billion. It is expected that the growth momentum will continue in 2022, and the investment in OEM and logic equipment will increase by 17%. Both front-end (FAB) and back-end (assembly / packaging and testing) semiconductor equipment are contributing to global expansion. The fab equipment sector, including wafer processing, Fab facilities and mask / mask equipment, is expected to grow by 43.8% to a new industry record of $88 billion by 2021 and 12.4% to about $99 billion by 2022. It is estimated that the wafer plant equipment will decrease slightly by - 0.5% to USD 98.4 billion in 2023.

The agency pointed out that the strong demand for memory and storage by enterprises and consumers has driven the growth of DRAM and NAND equipment expenditure.

They pointed out that DRAM equipment sector is in a leading position in the expansion in 2021, which will soar by 52% to US $15.1 billion and increase by 1% to US $15.3 billion in 2022. It is estimated that the NAND equipment market will grow by 24% to US $19.2 billion in 2021 and 8% to US $20.6 billion in 2022. It is estimated that DRAM and NAND expenditures will decrease by - 2% and - 3% respectively in 2023.

After achieving a strong growth of 33.8% in 2020, the assembly and packaging equipment segment is expected to soar by 81.7% to $7 billion in 2021. It will increase by 4.4% in 2022. The semiconductor test equipment market is expected to grow by 29.6% in 2021, reaching US $7.8 billion; It will continue to grow by 4.9% in 2022 to meet the demand for 5g} and high performance computing (HPC) applications.

From the regional perspective, China, Korea and China Taiwan are expected to become the top three regions of equipment expenditure in 2021. China is expected to remain in the first place in 2021, while Taiwan, China, is expected to return to the first place in 2022 and 2023. Equipment expenditure is expected to increase in all regions in 2021 and 2022.
