Micron: "The epidemic" does not affect DRAM expansion plans in Taiwan
The New Crown "epidemic" broke out globally, and Taiwan is a major production center for Micron DRAM. Xu Guojin, vice president of Micron Technology and chairman of Taiwan Micron Technology, said that from the end of January, all employees were banned from traveling, and communicated closely with employees and held online meetings. Not slack for a moment, and the company and factory were not affected.
Micron Technology is a global semiconductor company with semiconductor factories in the United States, China and Taiwan, Japan and Singapore. During the "epidemic" outbreak in mainland China, the Xi'an packaging and testing plant began responding to it at the first time, and started a transnational collective epidemic prevention work with the US headquarters and each plant.
Xu Guojin further stated that the epidemic prevention work of the Micron plant in Taiwan had two large-scale online meetings before the Ching Ming holiday, and repeatedly called on employees not to go to crowded places. At present, there are as many as 8,000 employees in Taiwan, and the proportion of people working at home is only 10%. It is because the company launched an anti-epidemic mechanism in advance, stopped global travel at the end of January, and began to reduce the exchange between Taichung Houli and Taoyuan Factory in February. At the same time, the deployment of the red and blue teams divided into groups A and B is divided into 2 teams (teams) for each plant and each unit.
Micron is an important DRAM production town in Taiwan, and plans to build two fabs A3 and A5 next to the Zhongke Park plant, of which the A3 plant is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2020 and put into production in 2021, introducing the latest 1Znm process trial production . Xu Guojin said that the current operations of Micron ’s plants in Taiwan have not been affected. At the same time, there are no employees to confirm the diagnosis, so Micron ’s investment plan in Taiwan will not change. Even if the required equipment and raw materials must be imported from abroad, it will be planned in advance.
For the outbreak of this global "epidemic", although it brought operational challenges to the company, Xu Guojin believes that Micron will usher in a turnaround from different perspectives. At present, the Taiwan plant can be said to maintain efficient operations, and the plan for process upgrades has not changed. The time nodes of process development and the transition period have not changed, and they are in full swing, and they even hope to increase the speed of advancement and maintain the technological leadership in advance deployment.
In terms of market development, Xu Guojin said that the demand for cloud applications such as data centers and servers is very strong. Although consumer electronics and automotive market demand is weak, the remote office under the epidemic has also driven PC sales to strengthen, overall In terms of the outlook for the memory market, it remains optimistic.
